Today I will write something about mentalism psychology. What is mentalism? How does it works?
Can anybody be mentalists? Or is it just a Holywood fake skill.
In order to understand how mentalism psychology works, we need to understand how some of the greatest 21st century mentalists do it.
“Mentalism is an art of lying” – Kurt Demey.
Just like Patrick Jane, from the tv show Mentalist, Kurt has highly developed observation techniques, so he can read people minds. He is a showman that uses a lot of mentalism tricks in order to perform on the world scene.
His performances, such as “Rogati Man,” “The City That Breathe,” or “In the Air,” in which mentalism is used as an art tool, have performed at many international addresses. Kurt Demey also works as a consultant for several Belgian mentalists.
Keith Barry is an Irish magician and mentalist. He is born on 2 Octomber, 1976.
He has also been on TV as an actor. One of his most famous appearances is on the TV show CSI Miami in 2006.
There was this episode, in which Keith hacked the brain of famous actor Morgan Freeman.
“I haven’t hypnotised a whole lot of celebrities because they’re fearful of it,”
“But with brain hacking experiments, I’ve hacked into Morgan Freeman’s brain. He was the most famous and the most nerve wracking because I got really awestruck when I met him and the moment I was introduced to him he challenged me there and then to hack his brain.”
“I took about ten minutes to do an experiment on him and I told him about a childhood friend of his called Boo Boo who had hadn’t thought about in sixty years and he freaked out, he really freaked out.”
“It’s a mixture of hypnosis. magic and, of course, deception,” he says.
Haim Goldenberg is a famous Canadian-Israeli tv host and mentalist. He has mastered the mentalism psychology a long time ago.
Haim has combined his mentalism skills with humor. And he does it pretty well.
Goldenberg doesn’t claim that he has superpower. He uses the power that is inside everybody.
He is a tutor for other mentalists, teaching them about mentalism psychology, reading body language, and using misdirection to confuse their subjects into thinking that their brains has been hacked.
His work become recognized in 2009, when he was nominated for two Gemini awards.
Marc Salem is a Philadelphian mentalist. He was born Moshe Botwinick in a Jewish-American family.
Salem once said that regular people don’t use the information that they recive in their daily lives.
This is especially true in a poker game. Knowing what card other players have, how they cope with the situations, reading body language when players are bluffing is a skill that only high flying players and mentalists have.
How can we understand mentalism psychology
It can be understanded as a three way street.
Observation. You need to observe the subject. Read their facial expression, body language.
Second one is observation. You need to listen what others don’t. That is the stuff that we don’t often listen. Coughs, mumbling, sudden changes in vocal tones. Your subjects can give you valuable information about the state they are in.
Lastly, interpreting the information that you recived. Your brain need to be like a computer processor. It has to have the ability to process this information quckly and to respond in a manner a mentalist would.
This take time to master. Psychology of mentalist is highly developed. The start from young age and master their art trought the years.
